Hudson-Chatham Wines Now Available At Astor Wines & Spirits In NYC

Voted "Best Liquor Store" 2011 by The Village Voice

The wine selection at Astor Wines & Spirits rivals any in the country, and the store houses the most comprehensive collection of spirits in New York City. Located in a landmarked historical building, Astor is a family-owned, family-operated, multi-generational business. Astor has been a fixture in the community since the 1940s, and remains committed to reflecting and upholding the values of the neighborhood.
Astor Wines & Spirits has been a Greenwich Village fixture since 1946. When we decided to move to bigger digs recently, we thought it was only fitting that we'd end up in a New York City Landmark, the De Vinne Press Building. A charming and formidable structure, it has stood on the corner of Fourth and Lafayette Streets in Manhattan since 1885. Its façade has been carefully maintained, leaving its... charming period-specific features intact. We aren't just interested in preserving great wines; we want to keep the rich history of our neighborhood alive as well, so the building is a perfect home for our new space. Whether you're a longtime Village denizen or just a passer-by, you'll appreciate the 50% larger sales floor and incredible new amenities at our new location, which is just a two-minute walk south of our old one.

Hudson-Chatham Winery Moving Into May

This photo was taken last year on May 9, when growth in the vineyard was much farther along due to the very warm spring. Not this year!! But we know we're getting there, and hopefully we won't have a late frost like we did last year, which wiped out our primary bud growth. Mother Nature does what she wants to do! May is always a month of wonder, though, as things blossom and grow and the days get warmer and warmer. We're looking forward to the new growing season in the vineyard (and the raspberry and blueberry bushes), and our line-up of activities in the tasting room, including the Wine & Cheese Pairing classes, our Mother's Day weekend celebration, the Gourmet Gardening evening with Cornell Cooperative Extension (May 15), and the month's crowning event, the Hudson Berkshire Wine & Food Festival! We'll also be at the Rip Van Winkle Wine & Cheese Festival at the Catskill Point on May 11, as well as Foodstock in Callicoon, NY, on May 11.

Hudson Berkshire Wine & Food Festival - May 25 & 26, 2013

Save the Date for the inaugural Hudson Berkshire Wine & Food Festival! The festival is being held at the beautiful, historic Columbia County Fairgrounds in Chatham, NY, and is the first "interstate" festival where you can sample wine, beer, spirits, ciders, and of course lots of local foods from producers and farmers from the Hudson Valley AND the Berkshires. The festival will also feature cooking demonstrations by top area chefs and talks on everything from cheesemaking to home brewing.      We are very excited to be doing wine and cheese pairing classes with our esteemed neighbor - cheesemaker and sommelier, Peter Kindel. Peter is currently the cheesemaker at Hawthorne Valley Farm, where he is turning the milk from biodynamically raised cows into a variety of heavenly cheeses. Peter will be pairing some Hawthorne Valley and other artisanal Hudson Valley cheeses with Hudson-Chatham wines to showcase and explain how and why certain wines pair so beautifully with certain cheeses.

The classes are:
FRIDAY, 4-26, 6 to 8 pm: white wines & cheese
FRIDAY, 5-17, 6 to 8 pm: red wines & cheese
FRIDAY, 5-31, 6 to 8 pm: dessert and "other" wines & cheese

Each class will taste and review 3 wines and 6 cheeses.
Classes are $40/person or $75/couple. Attend all three classes for $100/person or $200/couple. (Hudson-Chatham case club members get 10% off.)

Classes are limited to 20 people, so make your reservations now by emailing to info@hudson-chathamwinery.com.
