RASPBERRIES ARE IN SEASON
CAN YOU SAY HARVEST
AT HUDSON-CHATHAM WINERY?

Picking raspberries sucks! DOn;t let anyone tell you different. It's hard, back breaking work. The berries are low to the ground, and you have to squeeze the just right to pull them off. Too light, and they don't always come. Too hard and they squish right in your hand.

You are either on your knees most of the time, or bending over most of the time.
And they are all over the place! They down low, they way deep inside. They are under leaves and behind thickets. They are so hard to pick.

Now the good news. We have a bumper crop of raspberries this year. We had several farm hands in from other farms to help us pick the other day, an an exhausted hand turned to me and said, "You gotta a LOT OF RASPBERRIES HERE!" He was tired.

We have two folk on hand at the farm who are picking everyday - Sam and Val. Here's Sam hard at work.

And the berries taste great. We have a nice combination of dark raspberries and fresh bright ones. And they all have a tartness and sweetness you can;t find in store bought fruit. They will make excellent wine!

We're about to make our final blend of Paperbirch Raspberry Fine Ruby from last year's harvest. This one's will be twice the size and twice the flavor. Very exciting!
