WHY WINE BLOG's Joe Shico
Talks About EMPIR RED
Regional Wine Week
Sunday, October 17, 2010
by Joe Shico

"Last year during regional wine week, I was able to taste (and consume a bit) some of my favorite wines from the nearby Finger Lakes. This year, although I planned for more, did not turn out as well as I would have liked. A bit under the weather and a big change in my drinking habits, because of my recent heart surgery, I was still planning on tasting some wines from some of the other regions in New York....

"The big surprise, at least for me, was a wine from the Hudson Valley region. This one I was not expecting much, but the Empire Red from the Hudson-Chatham winery was a hit. A blend of Finger Lakes Cabernet Franc, Long Island Merlot and Hudson Valley Baco Noir delivered pleasant aromas, a very nice mouth and a long, dry, fruit filled and smooth finish."

Thanks Joe!

RURAL INTELLIGENCE RAVES ABOUT
HUDSON-CHATHAM BACO NOIR 2009!

Chris Matthews gives a rave review of or 2008 and 2009 Baco Noirs in the most recent issue of Rural Intelligence.

"As often happens with a small production, gold medal-winner, however, the 2008 is now sold out. Fortunately, the De Vitos have kept some bottles back as “library” wines.

"Most of us remember the miserable, wet summer of 2009. In that context, the newly released 2009 Baco Noir is a pleasant surprise. While definitely lighter in color and body than the 2008, reflecting the difficult vintage, it has pretty, floral and plummy aromas reminiscent of Pinot Noir, and bright red fruit with a dash of pepper on the palate. The 2009’s lovely fruit and zesty acidity will make it a versatile—and delightful—local addition to a Thanksgiving table.

Conclusion: two very different, but pleasing wines, showing that Baco Noir can make exceptional wines in disparate (even bad) years in the HV."

He has a lot more to say. Go and read the whole thing at:

Thanks Chris, and everyone else at Rural Intelligence!
